Like Sue, a previous reviewer, I ve been going to Diner 77 since 1977 around when it opened. Back then I lived in the Pontcanna area of Cardiff and it was handy but also very good. I must say that it has been a few years since I last ate there and had all but forgotten about it. I called in one evening last week when visiting Cardiff and found that it is still good. Great food and good service. It was very busy too, a sign of a good restaurant but it was a little difficult to squeeze past other diners for a trip to the loo! That is my only negative comment and then only because it was so popular!
I must admit that I have a certain nostalgia fo this restaurant. I used to eat here regularly in the 1970s when at school in Bristol and it has some very good memories so when in Bristol a few weeks ago I called in for lunch. Obviously in the last 35 years my horizons have broadened and my experince of restaurants of all types and quality has increased somewhat!! I wa prepared to be disappointed but actually it was really quite good. It is an intimate little restaurant, the ambience is pleaant and the prices reasonable. I m sure there are better out there, but I like it!!
This is a no nonsense chinese restaurant, one of the oldest in Cardiff. The decor has seen better days but the prices are reasonable, the food acceptable and the atmoshere is relaxing. It has survived the popularity of the suburban takeaway, but I wonder if it will survive the onslaught of the buffet style, high value restaurants.
